A Minilab Christmas

The miniature lab series needed a new addition, and I needed a Christmas card for this year!

Introducing Sydwiki

I had to draw up a storyboard introducing myself for my first Schoolism assignment. Drawing yourself is really tough!

In the Park

I did this for a sketchoholic's competition a couple of weeks ago and have been working on it here and there ever since. I don't know if it will ever be finished :) It's been snowing and sleeting here like crazy and it's starting to look a little like this!

Saturday Snow Day Collaboration!!

Well, today it snowed quite a bit. So Mike Medicinehorse and I sat back with our alcoholic beverages and cintiqs and did a kickass collaboration painting of sorts. I sketched out the drawing(I might post it later but it's kinda messy :) and then we both painted our own versions of it. Med's is on the left, mine on the right. It is really cool to see how two paintings spawned from one drawing turn out. We didn't see each other's paintings until the end and this is how similar they turned out!!! It's a really really fun thing to do and I recommend everyone try it.
We've decided this will become a weekly endeavor, or at least we're going to make the attempt!!

Giant Flying Chameleon

I got a little bored working on my Cash paintings so I decided to paint an entry for the James Robertson competition on Sketchoholics.com. The subject is "flight". I've had this idea floating around in my head ever since Chesley Sullenberger landed his plane in the Hudson - I read a lot that week about controlling bird populations around airports :)

New Friends

This morning on his walk, Cash disappeared for a couple minutes. When I called him, he ran out of the woods with a coyote. They romped around like puppies for a minute and then the coyote saw me and bolted. I'm not sure if they each recognized the other's inherent dogness, or if the coyote just wasn't hungry at the time :)

Cash Sketches

These are a couple drawings of our dog Cash. Josh and I call him minilab because he looks like someone took a shrink-ray to an 80-pound black lab. Many people have asked where they can get their own minilab. We found ours here :)

Puddy tat

I had a friend that became intoxicated and tried to pet a raccoon. As funny as it sounds, I completely understand. They're pretty cute with their little masks and ring tails.

Halloween Illustration(WIP)

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I love walking into Targets and Walgreens and seeing the aisles full of candy, zombie pub crawls, costumes, and the burning leaf smell!!

spicy tuna and shrimp roll

I tried a different style for these and I think I like it better!

Hippy Boxer

I did this for one of the sketch marathons at Sketchoholics.com. The theme was "Hippy Boxer". I did the wrong kind of boxer :) oh well.

Sketches!

My coworker Med and I have been participating in the sketch marathons at Sketchoholics. They are great fun. One of my attempts got a shout-out from Bobby Chiu himself and I swooned, because he is amazing. Here is his work if you haven't seen it. The little lion got the most votes and upgraded me to a level 2 sketch-artist. Hopefully if I can find the time there will be more sketching today.
Oh and I almost forgot, the themes were "garden spirit" and "action pose"

Back from vacation!

This is an older image, but I didn't spend much time drawing on my little summer getaway. I tried my hand at windsurfing and was reasonably successful, participated in two greased watermelon fights, and tried quite a few tasty Michigan microbrews. Although Bell's Oberon was the cement that held our week-long beer buzz together, I also tried two others that I really enjoyed. One was an IPA by Arcadia Brewing that I can't remember the name of but remember that it had a ship on it. It was light but didn't have the fruity tinge like the Oberon. The other was Hopslam Ale which also comes from Bell's brewery. I would bet that the Four Firkins carries both.
Anyways, I've got quite a few things in the works so there will be a bunch of new stuff soon!

girls and dogs, WIP

Despite the cat sushis, I've always been more of a dog person. I am also a fancy dress person. So I am combining the two. I will write more about this novel idea later because I'm pretty tired. The dog in the unfinished sketch will be a pug :)

Sushi Cats v02

I added two more cat rolls! I was initially going to make them all siamese, but on a whim I tried making the middle one an orange tabby and he looked like a shrimp roll so I left it. I'm already hankering for sushi again and it's only been a month since Las Vegas (the last great sushi feeding of Josh and I). Minneapolis has a couple of decent places but nothing compared to the West coast. Or St. Petersburg, which strangely enough had sushi places on most corners. They also had Gin and Tonic in a can! Good old muzzaland.

Sushi Cat!

Georgian goodness

I wish I could go back in time to London in the early 19th century. After extensive vaccinations, that is. I would find Lord Nelson and convince him to make lots of little lordlings with me. And then I would return to modern day times with my brood of illegitimate Horatios and together we would rule the seas.

wee Death

This is a little reaper I drew a few months ago. I used mechanical pencil which doesn't happen so much anymore. I wanted to take one of those sweet Faber-Castell ink numbers to him but couldn't out of fear of destroying a cute little sketch.
