Lobster Knight

A pen and ink drawing that I'd like to refine when I get a chance. Maybe paint this little sea cockroach.

Pierce Brosnan Villain

One of my homework assignments was to design a villain with that would have Pierce Brosnan's voice. He materialized so quickly that I think he must have already existed somewhere in my mind. I think our brains are filled with hundreds of locations, based off of places we've been or places we want to go. The inhabitants are based off people we know or aspects of our personality. Somewhere in my brain-world there is a quaint oldish village that looks like Prague or Laguna Beach. The killer-for-hire part of me meets his clients at a cafe in this town. It has tiny tables and tiny espresso cups and it's filled with intrique.

Gouache landscape painting with Mike Hernandez

Just finished a weekend workshop with Mike Hernandez learning about gouache landscape painting. The first day we spent at Vasquez rocks, where it was 93 degrees and sunny, and the second day we spent at Laguna Beach, where it was 60 degrees and overcast. I ended up sunburned both days :)

It was an educational and well-taught workshop. Mike taught us the importance of capturing the feel of a place rather than attempting to get the painting correct down the the last detail. It's amazing how that's possible with a certain palette and the right brushstrokes. I'd really like to get a portable easel and gear and do little paintings like this on all my hikes. There are so many times when my camera(admittedly not the finest camera in existence) isn't enough to capture what I want to remember about a place.

Octopus B-day card

My mom recently visited the Seattle Aquarium and saw one of these guys. It was love at first sight so I decided to make her an octopus themed birthday card.

Monday Night Painting

The Minnehaha creek. I'd really like to learn how to use oils, especially for landscapes. Anyone want to teach me? :D

Western Australia Sketches

These are some sketches I did in my journal while I was tromping about in Australia. I had more opportunities to draw while we were on the coast, so that's why more of these are ocean critters! I've also got some lizards and landscapes from hiking and a few architecture sketches from Russia but I'm going to save travel sketches for weeks when I'm too busy to do anything new :)

More Cash

I wish that Minnesota winter looked like this. I also wish that bears were friendly. But they're not and so I am scared shitless of them.

Another chameleon

I got some cool paper with a brocade pattern on it a while ago and it wasn't getting used so I cut off a little piece and painted this chameleon on it! I used gouache with a little bit of white acrylic.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Tahoe!!

My christmas gift this year from my amazing and ridiculously good-looking boyfriend was a week snowboarding in Lake Tahoe with some great friends, Tim and Crystal. The week was spent learning many new things, including but not limited to: successfully jumping over things on a snowboard, how to play guitar hero and all the lyrics to the 80's hit "Heat of the the Moment", and that before you attempt to take a dip in a freezing lake, check the depth because a lot of them don't get deeper until really far out into the water.

These are a few little paintings of some of the stuff that I saw. I did some pen and ink sketches as well that I'll post later. Happy Wednesday!

Happy New Years!

I only have a bunch of unfinished drawings because the holidays have been absolutely insane! But here is a video of my family's New Year's tradition. We cut a hole in the ice and get dipped into it. We go in our sauna first, of course :)
